A few weekends ago I was offered the opportunity to attend
the US Jaycees National Leaders Training down in Tulsa,
Oklahoma. It was pretty intense with 3 days of training all
day on the US Jaycees national programs as well as trainings
from Matt Booth, a very good motivational speaker. While I
met a lot of great people down there and brought back a ton
of information on our national programs, the most important
thing I took away from the training was a list of 10 goals
for 2010. These goals are personal in nature and they should
be evaluated at least once per month.
Since I have been encouraged to do so and so that I am
accountable for my goals, I would like to share with you
some of my goals right now. |

To
get a promotion at work by January 2011 - While I may be
busy this year supporting the Wyandotte Jaycees, I think I
can accomplish some great things in my job and I aim for it
to show before the end of the year.
To recruit 12 members into the Wyandotte Jaycees -
This is just one member per month into the chapter. I just
have to remember to talk to everyone about the project
management and leadership opportunities that we offer!
To
meet and speak with every member of the Wyandotte Jaycees -
Since I attend most events, this goal should not be
hard. I plan to call everyone on our roster at least 1 time
per month. Be on the lookout for President Julie!
To spend more time in 2010 with my grandparents -
They aren’t getting any younger and I’d like to take the
time to listen to what they have to say.

To buy a new car by January 2011 - Our 2005 van has a
lot of miles, but also has had quite a bit of work.
It’s time for a new ride!
These are just a few of my goals that I set down in Tulsa. I
have them written down on a piece of paper and I carry them
with me in my wallet so I can look at them when I am sitting
around not doing much. (Which doesn’t happen often, but it
does occasionally!) Now I am accountable for my goals as I
have shared them with you!
In this New Year (and just because it is February doesn’t
mean you can’t do it) I encourage all of you to write down
some goals for yourselves. It doesn’t take long as I think
we only had 5 minutes to write them down when I was in
Tulsa. Make sure that they are specific so that they are
definable once accomplished. Then carry them with you
wherever you go and share them with people so that you can
be accountable. Your friends and family will help you
accomplish those goals if you ask them to.
Keep me posted on your accomplishments!
I wish you all a fantastic February!
Julie Abshire
2010 President
