WYANDOTTE — It’s one week before Halloween and for thrill-seekers looking to get into the spirit of things it’s hard to beat a haunted house.

Although the location has changed through the years, the Wyandotte Jaycees have built a reputation for some of the scariest haunted attractions in the area.

It could be that after three decades of putting them together, the Jaycees have acquired the knack for how to scare people.

In its 32nd year, Jaycees’ members have gone old school.

“The theme this year is ‘Night Terrors’ and when you enter you will visit all those old fears you had as a kid,” said Jennifer Bramble, a Jaycee handling publicity for the group’s fund-raiser. “From the boogey-man to things that go bump in the night, this house will scare you into believing they are real.”

Bramble said the Wyandotte Jaycees have built award-winning haunted houses for many years. The group recently held a three-year record of the best Jaycee haunted house in the state and look to bring the award home again this year, she said.

The Jaycees begin the haunted house season early by looking for a location in June. This year the attraction is at the same location as last year, the old Templin’s Auto Shop, 2070 Biddle Avenue.

“But that is the only thing that stayed the same,” Bramble said. “The building has been reworked for a totally new experience.”

Opening night was Oct. 16, but there still is plenty of time to visit. The haunted house will be open Sunday, as well as Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of Halloween week. The hours are 7 to 10 p.m. Sunday and Thursday, and 7 p.m. to midnight today, tomorrow and next Friday. Halloween weeknights also will have hours from 7 to 10 p.m. All tickets are $10.

For those with little chil-dren (or weak hearts) there will be a tour of the haunted house in a nonthreatening manner. Friendly Monster Night will be offered from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday. The price for Friendly Monster Night is $2 per child, or a can of food to help with the Jaycees’ Thanksgiving food baskets. Parents can visit free.

During these hours, the lights are left on, masks are left off and children receive a treat at the end.
